TWITTER POLL: Majority believes Netanyahu will proceed with annexation plans despite backlash
2020-06-27 | Since 4 Month
Many countries have expressed concerns over Israel’s West Bank annexation plans, as well as the UN which said it would “constitute a most serious violation of international law.” An Arab News Twitter poll has asked people if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would heed this international call, and abandon plans to annex parts of the West Bank. Majority of the voters, 69.2 percent, said Netanyahu would proceed with the plans despite the backlash. Only 30.8 percent thought he would listen to those opposing the move.
Israel’s annexation plans have been given the green light by the US as part of President Donald Trump’s Vision for Peace plan. Israel and the US describe the plan as a “realistic” two-state solution, but the Palestinians, who were not consulted, oppose it outright and have boycotted diplomatic relations with Washington. Many other international organizations, including the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have rejected the proposed plan citing international law. Earlier this month, a local report said Netanyahu would implement the annexation in phases, hoping it could quell international opposition.
