Paramount Pictures has pushed the release of the UAE-shot Mission: Impossible 7, as well as Top Gun: Maverick, as major blockbusters continue to face delays across Hollywood.

Top Gun: Maverick, which stars original cast member Tom Cruise alongside Miles Teller, has been pushed back to November from July, the studio has announced.

The move will deprive cinemas of what was expected to be one of the biggest releases of the summer blockbuster season.

The sequel to the 1986 film will now instead debut on Friday, November 19, the day Paramount had planned to release Cruise's seventh Mission: Impossible instalment, which has now been moved to May 2022, Paramount said.

Many cinemas across the US and the world were hoping for a bumper summer season, fuelled by a number of major delayed releases, following one of the toughest years in the industry’s history due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

As it stands, the ninth instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise, from Comcast Corp's Universal Pictures, currently remains scheduled to hit cinemas on Friday, June 25.

Walt Disney Co's Marvel film Black Widow is set to be released in cinemas on Friday, July 9, after numerous delays. The film will also be released for a fee on the same date on streaming service Disney+, as the company continues to experiment with a mixed release model.

Pixar's Italy-inspired animation Luca will now only appear on Disney+ from Friday, June 18, while live-action Cruella featuring Emma Stone will appear on big and small screens from Friday, May 28, the company said.
